Hello! I’m Jay…
Welcome to Radical Empathy Counseling LLC, a private practice owned and run by Jay Zegan-Lister, MS, LPC here in the Richmond, VA area. Here at Radical Empathy, we value the humanness in the struggles many of us face. Whether you are navigating challenging symptoms of anxiety or depression, or are attempting to heal from painful past learning, Jay is here to work with you on decreasing symptoms that no longer serve you.
We identify as all top three of our specialties, which we believe gives us the ability to understand, from our experiences, what it is client’s might be navigating. With that being said, you know you best. We are able to relate and provide delicate care you deserve while you are incredibly brave in considering engaging in trauma work and therapy in general. They know that entering the room and meeting them for the first time can be anxiety producing, which they hope to decrease with their own humanness and at times, appropriate humor, to begin creating comfort and safety.
Jay provides Gender Affirming Care letters, following WPATH standards. We believe that obtaining these letters are a right to people and Jay is happy to write them as fast as they ethically can. They may ask questions and complete assessments, which often they need to provide the most robust affirming letter they can. With this being said, insurance companies have the ultimate decision on whether or not your letter will be accepted, which is unfortunately out of Jay’s control.
You deserve a safe loving space to heal and it is Jay’s privilege to be able to provide that. You matter so very much. It would be their honor to be with you on this phase of your journey. You are worthy of mental wellness and deserve to focus on yourself and your needs. Please be well, and know that you are so deserving of healing, connection, and wholeness.
